The COVID-19 outbreak has been extremely detrimental for tourism-based businesses across the globe. In Uganda, up to 38% of smaller tour operators face business closure, and the tourism sector as a whole has lost an estimated USD 1.6 Billion in foreign exchange revenue.
As part of the EU’s response, this project to support Uganda’s tourism sector has been launched. The overall objectives are to:
- Support the Hospitality sector, with the objective of increasing employment and re-instating the hospitality sector in the economy.
- Support tour operators, through generation of employment and avoidance of business closure, maintaining their role in the tourism sector as a whole.
