Country or Region: Mozambique
Sector: Public Policy
Client: EU Delegation Mozambique
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic came at a time when Mozambique was still recovering from the impact of the two cyclones in 2019 and the economic consequences of the hidden debt scandal back in 2016, coupled with the escalation of the insurgency in the North and widespread rising inequality. The crisis is having a severe social and economic impact in the country.
The EU’s short-term emergency response to this crisis is the State Resilience Building Contract (SRBC), which aims to assist the Government of Mozambique (GoM) in mitigating the socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic, with a specific focus on education, social protection, and health.
The overall objective of this project is to provide TA support, to contribute to the effectiveness, efficiency, accountability and responsiveness of the development, implementation, reporting and follow up of the Government of Mozambique’s COVID-19 Response.
Specifically, this takes the form of:
- Assisting the Government of Mozambique in coordinating dialogue and implementation of the EU SRBC
- Monitoring the implementation of the SRBC, through the identification and tracking of indicators
- Supporting the Government of Mozambique in strengthening M&E systems to aid in accountable planning of the COVID-19 response
- Supporting the visibility of the EU SRBC programme, including through organisation of events and regular publication of reports
